Welcome to

The North Leigh Regeneration Project

Welcome to the North Leigh Park Group Limited (NLPGL) website, designed to inform the local community about the regeneration of North Leigh.

North Leigh is a 75 Hectare (187 acre) site situated in on the eastern side of Wigan Borough to the North of Leigh and Hindley Green and West of Atherton. Leigh Town Centre is just over 3km to the south and Atherton a town about half the size of Leigh, lies 2km to the east of the main site. Wigan Town Centre is 8km to the West.

Working with Wigan Council for over twelve years, NLPGL has promoted the North Leigh brownfield site and obtained outline planning permission in February 2013 to deliver some 1,800 new homes, c. 500,000 ft² of employment space, and c. 47 acres of strategic green infrastructure and construction of the new Atherleigh Way Link Road. The North Leigh site is identified by Wigan Council’s Core Strategy as the only Key Strategic Site in the Borough, with its delivery vital to the social and economic revitalisation and regeneration of the area, as well as acting as a catalyst for further suitable growth in the area.

NLPGL received a Resolution to Grant for the Reserved Matters Application for the Phase 1 North Leigh Park 162 unit development off Nel Pan Lane on 21 June 2016. This Phase 1 scheme will create a superlative gateway into the site, stunning new public parks, woodland wildlife parks, riverside trails and lakes. Rebranding of phase 1 North Leigh Park will reflect the quality of the new place that we are creating in the heart of Wigan - click here to read more:.

On 8 November and 9 November 2016 we will be holding public exhibitions on proposed changes to the masterplan. The two consultation exhibitions will allow the community to understand and have an input on three separate planning applications, prior to their submission in late 2016.

1. Re-alignment to the internal link road between Leigh Road and Westleigh Lane

2. Subsequent amendments to the masterplan and associated changes to public rights of way diversions

3. A new junction onto Leigh Road

The exhibitions will provide local residents and businesses the opportunity to view proposals in detail, ask questions and offer feedback, including ways to improve the proposals. Click here to find out more and complete and online question

NLPGL is a sister company to the Gibfield Park Group Limited, who successfully regenerated the 278 acre Gibfield Park Site, an area blighted by coal mining, including a derelict open cast mine and 57 deep mine shafts. This massive Atherton regeneration delivered much needed new employment, housing, community facilities, safe public open space and a 1.5 mile extension of the A Class Atherleigh Way into the new Gibfield Business Park.
